What is a Wardrobe Stylist?
A wardrobe stylist gets clients to view their wardrobe as a whole, like a portfolio to manage. The wardrobe stylist begins by interviewing the client to understand them - their body type, social life, business concerns, and personal preferences (colors, brands, stores). The lifestyle must be understood. This is the Wardrobe Lifestyle Review.
Once the wardrobe consultant understands the client's lifestyle, then she can begin to review the wardrobe to create the State of the Wardrobe document. Typically this means an in-house walk through of the wardrobe, looking at all the apparel and having the client wear some pieces. After this the wardrobe consultant recommends for each piece in the wardrobe either Keep, Consign, or Donate.
For the clothing the client will Keep, the wardrobe stylist categorizes and sorts the pieces by labels such as business, social, galas, fall, winter, spring, bright, dark, sexy, or conservative. This is the creation of a Wardrobe Portfolio that eases life for the client. The Portfolio is a digital document that will show images of each piece along with the categories (tags) associated with each piece. This makes it very easy for a client to pull up the Portfolio on their phone or laptop and find pieces by tag. For example a business woman going to a gala could search tags "conservative", "winter", and "social." The results would show pieces from her wardrobe for winter time social events that are a conservative style.
After the Wardrobe Portfolio is completed, the client is ready to quickly and painlessly dress for every occasion. He might even decide to buy new attire that matches up to the Wardrobe Lifestyle Review. In this case it's probably a smart investment to use a Personal Shopper that purchases the right styles for his Personal Brand.
